It is no secret that in many parts of the world certain musical rhythms are used to induce a very relaxed state of mind, helping individuals to memorise long and complex stories and tribal histories.  The Ancient Greeks for instance, used the lyre to duplicate the rhythm of the resting heartbeat to learn and then recite long stories. It is also believed that the audience learned the words of the story whilst being entertained by the speaker and the lyre player. Huge passages of religious works are learned in monasteries assisted by rhythmic music or chanting.

In more recent times a great deal of research has been undertaken into the function of the brain and in particular how certain types of music actually enhance our ability to learn. Scientists discovered that when we are relaxed and listening to one beat per second music, our brain becomes astonishingly receptive to information, learning occurs much faster and retention improves dramatically. In short we are accelerating our ability to learn.

This method of learning continues to gain credibility and is now used around the world to boost memory function for any topic or subject to be learned.  The most widely used music for this purpose is known as Baroque.  Certain movements from the works of Bach, Handel, Vivaldi are most effective, some for learning new information, other movements are more suited for revision and recall.
